Knowing yourself and your community - The First Step.

Hello... We meet again,

Today I’m going to talk about Step 1 – Knowing yourself and your community.

When faced with an emergency situation not everyone keeps a clear head or knows what to do. By doing this step, it is the basis of your emergency action plan.

  • Knowing what your capabilities are and what you might need to help you through an emergency situation.

  • Finding out about your community; is there any natural hazards and how to deal with them.

  • Involving people that you can trust such as family and friends.

You might be in a situation where you may require extra help or you may think of another way of doing things.

Have a go at developing scenarios and practice them. Then time yourself to see how long it takes for you to get to safety.

Research your local community either by the internet or by contacting Title Deeds or local Council. Find out about any natural hazards that could affect your area.

By using the download and the information in this step, you could discover a few things that you didn’t think or know of.

I have found this helpful, thinking of things that I would never have thought about until now.

This is a one of the many important steps that you will take on your journey to safety. It helps you to take a good look at yourself and your community.

Until next time...Stay Safe,

Alison.
